UPDATE!!!

Well, it's been quite a long time since I've had time to update this darn thing!

These next few posts will be a compilation of my semester
and all the exciting, cool and colorful things I've been working on!

But here's the really exciting news:

Thanks to the Oberlin College Winter Term Office
I will be trekking up north to visit wool mills and
research for my project:

Made in America: From Fiber to Fabric

Wooot!

It's a pretty exciting trip.
What's more exciting is Oberlin actually gave me $$!

I just firmed up my plans a few days ago
and will be hitting the road in a week or so.

I'm going to make three stops:
Harrisville, NH to visit Harrisville Designs
North Hampton, Mass. to visit Webs
and
Putney, VT to visit Green Mountain Spinnery

More on everything soon.

Oh right, a Belated Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas!

Liberty x bStore

Why does all good fashion happen outside the US??

The slingback with the Lucite heel, could be tacky but I'm IN love.

These shoes along with a cute satchel are slated for sale not till February 2012!!

Ugh.

Runaway as fast as you can

Granted I am always behind the times when it comes to pop culture,
I am obsessed with this video.

I love not only the song, but the dancing.

Since I stopped swimming competitively I've spent a lot of time reflecting
on the activities and talents I used to pursue.

From age 4-13 I studied ballet intensively at
one of the most prestigeous academies on the East Coast.

It broke my heart to stop, just like it broke my heart to stop swimming.
Alas, as many warned me, I am young and there is still time to pick
swimming, dancing, singing up again!

I miss the grace, poise and beauty that ballet entails.
The sweeping movements, balance, clean lines.

Hera

Boots | Miista Hera Bootie

My newest want. I've been looking for some clogish boots.
You know, wooden sole with a slight chunky heel.

I debated a few, including the Ugg Lynnea.
Sadly, the foot bed and toe box of the boot aren't shearing lined.
Bummerrrr.

I like the woven macrame look of these combined with the moccasin like tassels
although they may be too similar to my Sperry's...

Will post more about fall break and fiber stuff soon. I hope.

Stripes of Color

Oh Free People how I hate you but how I love you!
Urban Outfitters corporation is horrible,
but I will admit they make the most beautiful clothes.

I ordered this skirt from Karmaloop with a discount code.

tata! Off to enjoy the last few days of sun here in Oberlin
before it turns gray and wet.

Oh! more to come about my weaving and independent study in Fiber Arts.

LRD (Little Red Dress)

I've suddenly become obsessed with this dress.
Shop Bop only has size Large left.
I'm gonna spring for it.

eek!

Warp

My yarn arrived on Friday afternoon! It's gorgeous, beautiful heathered colors (above).
Though I am having second thoughts about the purple.
However the yarn is bought and the money spent!
Here goes!

I started my warp today for my cape. It's actually quite a lengthy process.
First, (after many careful calculations-- thanks Betsy!)
I have to measure out all of my warp strings on a warping board.
Pictured below.

Sorry the photos aren't the best. I can't stop using my iPhone!

Work In Progress

Phew! Almost ready to begin! Here are the sketches of my cape.
I still haven't decided on the colors I'm thinking either two heathered grays or
a gray and purple mix.

It was really hard to sketch out my ideas,
drawing just doesn't come naturally or easily to me.
I think with more practice I will get better and it will become easier.

The last few sketches are from my friend Sheye. Aren't they fab?

Here are some swatches of the colors I'm thinking of using.

From top down Purple Haze, Charcoal, Ebony ans Silver Haze.

amy hall

Beautiful hand knitwear from Amy Hall.

Based out of the UK these chunky designs are fantastic!
But jeez expensive!

A cold front/the fall has moved in to Oberlin. Perfect sweater weather!
I can't wait to get started on some new warm fuzzy project and to break out
the things I finished over the summer.

Spent yesterday afternoon natural dyeing over open fire with two of the most inspiring fiber fanatics in Oberlin. I will post pictures later.

So so so so much to do this fall.

rust

Being back at school definitely gives me more time and inspiration to update this.
I'm excited for classes to start only two days!
But still soooo many decisions.

Our (adorable) house is slowly coming together.
The kitchen is organized, now on to the pantry!

Lilac

Lately I have an obsession with lilac.

In addition to loving all of these shoes, I've recently been on a lilac yarn binge.

12 skeins of Debbie Bliss Como
2 skeins of A Verb for Keeping Warn Reliquary II
1 skein of Skacel Merino Lace
Lots of knitting ahead of me!

Sarah Richards

All I can say is wow.

I haven't seen this much talent since LeeAnne Marshall and she fell off the face of the earth.
These collections are amazing. The balance between the knit, print and the fringe is so well done.

Such young talent, Sarah Richards graduated from RISD this past spring!
Keep it up girl! I wish I had your talent!

The top three images are from her newest collection called Extra Verte.
